Not a whole has been going on since the last update. Mostly just laying by the pool and eating in town. It’s all very relaxing down here.
Some “exciting” news… but not really. Today while we were at the pool, we saw a camera crew at the hotel. They were setting something up on the beach. Anyways, we figure we would find out eventually and Rochelle and I walked to town. On our way back, we noticed a lot more camera crew set up in the lobby. After waiting around for 5 minutes, we heard a “Lets do this thing”. A van pulled up and two people hopped out. It was Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Yeah, I was underwhelmed as well. Apparently they are from the MTV show The Hills. Apparently they just got married in Cabo a few days before. They’re having a wedding reception in out by the pool as I write this. I was practically invited.
After seeing them in the lobby (I walked right by her, like 3 feet away). We waited down at the pool but I had my camera with me this time. I took the camera out to take a pic of Rochelle and as soon as security saw me, the told me to put it away. Apparently no “professional” cameras we’re allowed down there.
I got a lucha libre mask! Watch out when I get home, I might body slam you.
Days one and two in Cabo have been very relaxing. Mostly sitting by the pool or swimming in the ocean. The water here is very warm. Me Cabo (the hotel) is very nice and apparently a few years ago MTV filmed a few episodes of a reality show here.
A little drama on day 0 & day 1. Haley’s (sister in law) boyfriend left his passport on the taxi when he arrived at the hotel. He ended up getting it back but we were all a little concerned that he might become a permanent resident.
I took the camera out for a bit and snapped a few pics and threw them into a panorama. It came out okay but if you look closely the masts of a couple of ships are off. I’ll try and gimp them back to normal when I get home.
Not sure what the rest of the week entails. Might go rent some jet ski’s or something. Will definitely hit up the new mall as it has some very cool shops. The marina here is beautiful. Its nice to be outside in shorts and a t shirt in the middle of November.
After two short 2 hour flights, we arrived in Cabo. Another 30 minute drive and we are at the resort. The weather here is nice. Its low 80s partly cloudy and fairly muggy. First order of business was to get some food at a restaurant on the beach called “The Office”. Later that night we took a walk into downtown. Downtown Cabo is neat but its mostly just bars and restaurants. Lots of people offering taxi’s, jewelry, and a few offered to get us high. Not sure if the guys selling us marijuana were undercover police or not. Either way, we said no.
Gmail is now supporting different themes so you can customize the look and feel! I currently see about 31 themes but I would imagine this would increase over time. Anyways, here are a few themes I liked:
I recently purchased a new video card. Its an ATI 2600 Pro. Much much quieter than my previous card, a GeForce 6600 GT. Anyways, I had some trouble getting it up and running. In case any Kubuntu user needs some help, these are the commands I ended up running to get it working:
Install the drivers: sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
Reconfigure X: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Configure ATI: sudo aticonfig –initial -f
That worked for me. All I needed to do after that was restart x using the following command: sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart.
However, I haven’t yet got the cool 3d desktop effects of KDE 4 running. Anyone have any recommendations? I’m pretty sure its just a xorg.conf issue but I can’t put my finger on it.
I wish I would have found this before the election but oh well. Piper talks about what the Christian perspective should be in regards to the election or rather politics in general.
And… I know this is an old video or sermon rather but I wanted to share this one as well. I think its pretty spot on and classic Piper. Gets me fired up watching it.
